The best time for newborn photography?​

The best time for newborn photography is typically within the first two weeks of life. During this period, babies are still very sleepy, flexible, and generally easier to pose. Here’s why this time frame works so well:

1. Sleepy Phase: Newborns tend to sleep a lot in the first 10-14 days, which makes it easier to capture those peaceful, curled-up, and adorable shots.

2. Posing Flexibility: Babies are more flexible during this time, which allows photographers to pose them in those classic, cozy, curled-up positions that parents love.

3. Skin and Features: Newborns' skin is still soft and smooth, and their features haven’t yet developed that “older baby” look, giving a timeless, cherubic feel to the photos.

4. Less Discomfort: Newborns tend to experience less gas, colic, or discomfort in the early days, so they’re more content and calm, making for easier photo sessions.

If you're planning a session, it's best to schedule it while you're still pregnant and then take the photos within that 7-14 day window. After the two-week mark, babies can be more alert, have less flexible limbs, and might not sleep as deeply, making posing more challenging.

 

How far in advance should I book my Newborn Photography photo session?

 

Our schedule usually fills up 4-6 weeks in advance. Please try to keep that in mind when booking. It’s always best to reach out “too early” then too late. Usually in your 2nd trimester is fine. ​

 

Where does the Newborn Photography session take place?

Newborn sessions, these take place in my home studio located in south Guelph. 

 

Do you travel for Newborn Photography?

 

Absolutely! If you would like me to come to you, this is definitely an option. Please note there is a travel fee which includes my travels, I bring all my props to you, set up and take down.

Where have I travelled for newborn photography?

 

I travel for my newborn sessions, yes. I have photographed in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Mississauga, Burlington, Hamilton, London and greater Toronto area, and surrounding areas. 

 

 

When will my Newborn Session take place? 

 

Once baby has arrived, all I ask is you let me know so I can book you in for the next available newborn session. I generally aim for between 7 and 10 days, before 14 days. Babies come when they want, sometimes they arrive earlier than expected, and sometimes much later… It also depends on baby’s weight. If baby is on the lower end 5-6 lbs, we can wait 2 weeks until I book the session. If baby is not he heavier side -8-10 lbs, I may want to see you earlier, like 7 days.

My baby is over 1 month, is my baby too old for a newborn session?

 

Absolutely not, I have photographed babies that were 2-3 months old. Please note it is different, baby is not as curly or may not be able to do some positions, but not to worry. At this age, baby is also more awake, and that’s beautiful too. I love photographing newborns with their eyes wide open. 

 

Newborn sessions are typically booked when you are in your 2nd or 3rd trimester! Please do not wait to have the baby to book a session. I only book a limited number of newborn due dates a month and will not always be able to accommodate a last-minute booking. 

 

What should I bring to my session?

 

Newborn, you are not obligated to bring anything. Nothing is required of you to bring to a session. I provide all of the backdrops/accessories necessary for the session. That being said, you are more than welcome bring an item or outfit you like, and I will try to incorporate it into the session… though this is not required.

 

When can I expect to receive my images?

Depending on which package you select, the turnaround time is normally 2 weeks. If completed earlier, I will send it to you right away.

 

Are Unedited/Raw images available?

Unedited/raw images are not available for purchasing at any time.

 

What if I would like to purchase more images, how much is it?

 

You can definitely purchase more if you would like, additional images are $30 each or 4 for $100

Buying newborn photography props can be a lot of fun, and there are plenty of options for where you can find high-quality items to make your photoshoots look professional and adorable. Here are some great places to buy newborn photography props:
