There’s something magical about the first few weeks of welcoming a new baby into the world. The quiet moments, the soft snuggles, the sleepy eyes, and the tiny fingers and toes that seem almost too perfect to be real. These early days pass in a blur of feeding, diaper changes, and adjusting to a new rhythm of life. That's why in-home newborn photography sessions are such a special way to preserve this fleeting time—right where your baby's story begins: at home.
Why Choose an In-Home Newborn Session?
Home is more than just a backdrop—it’s a feeling. It’s where the memories are made. By photographing your newborn in the comfort of your own space, your photos tell a more personal, intimate story. You’re not just capturing a baby—you’re capturing the life you’ve built around them.
Here are a few reasons families love in-home sessions:
Comfort for Baby and Parents: No need to pack a diaper bag, worry about feeding schedules, or stress about timing. You're already in your element.
Authenticity: Whether it’s the nursery you spent months designing or the cozy spot on the couch where you rock your baby to sleep, your home is the perfect setting for real, meaningful moments.
Flexibility and Flow: Newborns run the show—and that’s okay! In-home sessions are slower paced, with plenty of breaks for feeding, changing, or simply soothing your baby when they need a cuddle.
What Happens During a Session?
When I arrive, there’s no rush. I take time to meet your baby (and your fur babies too, if you have any!) and walk through your home to find the best light. We might shoot in the nursery, your bedroom, or even by a big window in the living room.
You don’t have to pose perfectly or have a Pinterest-worthy house. Some of the most beautiful images come from quiet, unscripted moments: a kiss on your baby's forehead, a yawn, a little stretch, or the way your partner looks at your newborn with wide-eyed wonder.
I’ll gently guide you into natural positions that feel comfortable—nothing stiff or forced. Think of it as storytelling with light and love.
How to Prepare
The beauty of in-home sessions is that you really don't have to do much. But here are a few simple tips to help the day go smoothly:
Tidy Up Lightly: No need for a deep clean—just tidy up the areas you’d like to shoot in. A made bed, clutter-free nightstand, or a cozy throw on the couch can go a long way.
Dress Simply: Soft neutrals photograph beautifully and keep the focus on you and your baby. Avoid logos or loud patterns if you can.
Keep Baby Cozy: Feed your baby just before the session so they’re nice and sleepy. A warm room and a swaddle go a long way toward peaceful photos.
The Most Meaningful Moments Are Unscripted
One of my favorite things about in-home newborn sessions is how they evolve naturally. There’s no pressure to perform. I’ve photographed diaper changes, big siblings peeking into the crib, and even the dog trying to sneak in a lick. These moments are real, and they’re yours.
Years from now, when your newborn is all grown up, these photos will remind you not just what they looked like—but how it felt to hold them, love them, and welcome them home.
