Traveling to Japan with my two boys, ages 5 and 8, was an unforgettable adventure—and for the first time ever, we did it without bringing a stroller! It felt like such a milestone as a parent, watching them confidently explore a new country completely on foot. From the peaceful beauty of Mount Fuji (Lake Kawaguchiko) to the rich history and charm of Kyoto, the vibrant energy of Osaka, and the buzzing excitement of Tokyo, every city offered something unique and magical. We didn’t use a guide, but I poured hours into research beforehand, mapping out must-see spots, kid-friendly experiences, and navigating transportation like a pro. The boys were incredible travelers—curious, excited, and surprisingly full of energy despite all the walking. It was freeing not having to push a stroller through crowds or up stairs, and it really allowed us to move at our own pace and soak in every moment. Japan was the perfect mix of adventure, culture, and family bonding, and doing it stroller-free for the first time made it feel like we’d hit a whole new stage in our travel journey.
One of the absolute highlights of our trip to Japan was the food—every meal felt like an experience in itself. From fresh sushi and sizzling ramen to fluffy pancakes and street snacks like takoyaki and mochi, every bite was better than the last, and even the kids found new favorites! What made the trip even more special was how incredibly kind and polite everyone was. Locals went out of their way to help, even with language barriers, and always greeted us with warm smiles. Japan is truly one of the cleanest countries we've ever visited—streets were spotless, public spaces were well-maintained, and there was such a strong sense of respect for shared environments. And I have to mention the bidets—seriously, every bathroom felt like a luxury! Heated seats, sprays, and sound options—it was next-level comfort we didn’t know we needed. It all added to an amazing experience that was both welcoming and unforgettable.
Riding the bullet train in Japan was such a cool experience—it felt like something straight out of the future! The Shinkansen was not only incredibly fast and smooth, but also super quiet and comfortable, making it easy for the boys to relax and enjoy the ride as we zoomed past cities and countryside. Japan’s entire transport system blew us away with how efficient, clean, and easy it was to navigate. Trains always ran on time, stations were clearly marked (even for tourists), and getting from city to city—whether it was Kyoto to Osaka or Tokyo to Mount Fuji—was surprisingly simple. Even local subways and buses were a breeze, thanks to helpful signage and super organized systems. With just a bit of planning and a few transport apps, we felt completely confident getting around, and the kids were great. Honestly, it made exploring Japan feel effortless—and fun!
